Julie Martin

Stop motion animation and fabrication

IMG_20200516_151922_188.jpg

Julie Martin (b.1997) lives in Billerica, Massachusetts. She animates primarily in stop motion because she understands motion best in physical spaces. As a child, she found herself lost in her own world and in a house full of antiques. The films she makes reflect a sense of whimsy and fun featuring many found vintage objects. Her work includes a variety of genres such as comedy, non-fiction, and experimental animation. Her puppets are made from a range of materials including paper, wood, and clay. She loves making costumes for puppets and studies fashion history. She is most interested in fashion from the 1770s-1970s. She also received a BFA in animation from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
